Cable knit and leggings...and a fun Wal-Mart find!

Here...In North Carolina, the temperature has been all over the place. In the last several days, you could have worn your flip flops and tank tops....and 3 days later your fleece leggings and wool coat.

The air conditioning may have been on inside, but I was happy in my cable knit and cozy leggings. It is winter and Christmas and I do not want to wear my flip flops!
{Leggings - Kohls, Plaid shirt and knit sweater - Old Navy, Boots - Target}
{Sweater - Target, Head band- Wal Mart}

On Sunday, we were running a few Christmas errands and we made a quick stop in Wal-Mart.
Emily talked me into buying her this fun head band. I am so glad she did!  The next day when I wore it, I got 2 random compliments and one "where did you get your cute headband?"
              {Top- Wal-Mart, Cardigan - NY and Co., Jeans - Target, Boots - Rack Room}

I love to shop for clothes in Target, but I'm all about Wal-Mart prices.... mostly for pet supplies and shampoo and such. Sometimes, when I have a few minutes, I venture into the clothing aisles. One day last summer, I found this cute tank top for around 8 bucks. Wearing it under a cardigan with jeans and boots makes it last throughout the year.

I'm looking forward to more cold weather...like hat and glove wearing, snow man making cold weather. I know many of you have some...send it our way!
Happy Wednesday and enjoy the season!
We are celebrating the coming of our King!
Enjoy!

I'm linking up here with The Pleated Poppy for some cold weather clothes wearing inspiration!

WIWW ~ More of "After Allume!"

Yesterday, I got dressed for the first time since returning home from Allume. Zac had a fever all day Sunday, so I knew that neither one of us would be leaving the house on Monday. PJ pants and a sweat shirt suited me just fine until around 7 pm when I exchanged my PJs for yoga pants on my way out the door to the Children's Urgent Care. No make up, a ball cap, and a pair of socks that didn't match. I looked like the sick one...so hopefully, no one really held it against me.
{If it matters...   Scarf~ Old Navy (new)   Shirt~ Old Navy (old)    Jeans~ Target (really old)}

So back to yesterday.
I showered. I got dressed and put on make up. I met my sweet friend for lunch and got to tell her about my time at Allume. I gave her a present, a piece of the conference that I knew was meant for her.  You see...When I arrived at the registration desk, I was given a choice of books. One was a prayer devotional by Beth Moore called Whispers of Hope.  My sweet friend has a huge heart for prayer and I knew that book would belong to her.

{Actually, this was not the prayer room This was the lounge, but it had a
similar feel and at this time of the day...a lot less people!}

I also couldn't wait to tell her about the prayer room at Allume. A place much like the lounge... cozy, inviting, warm, and set up to encourage small groups of women to connect on a deeper level. Along the wall in alphabetical order, there were hundreds of journals. One prayer journal for each person at Allume. Throughout the weekend, encouraging notes and prayers were written in the journals by others who had met and been encouraged by them. It was addicting. I wish I had gotten to the prayer before Saturday afternoon.

My friend was encouraged and so excited for me. She had tears in her eyes when she heard me say, "And while I was at Allume, I learned to call myself a writer!"  She had always known that to be true about me...but I didn't. Her acknowledge of that, the smile, the look on her face, and the tears...oh...such sweet goodness to my soul. And she would not have cared for a moment if I had shown up for lunch in my sweats and ball cap.

But because we all know it feels good to get dressed after 2 days in PJs, I ironed a shirt, pulled on some jeans...and wrapped a scarf around my neck...one of the two ways I know how. I'm learning  to change it up a bit and this video from FashionABLE is helping.

FashionABLE is an incredible organization empowering women in Africa...
and my next scarf will come from one of them. Go check them out here!

It's "What I Wore" Wednesday!
If you found me by way of  Lindsay's blog, I must say, I haven't shown my face over there in quite a while!
I'd love it if you'd take a moment to say "Hi"...and I'll come see your face and say "Hi" right back.

WIWW and a big mess!

Sometimes, I get angry, other times, disgusted. Then I try hard to remember every thing that she has going on. School, work, volleyball, Young Life, friends, studying, and whatever else. Somehow she is keeping it all together....while her room literally falls apart. At least I can still find what I'm looking for.
It really is an overwhelming mess. I think I'm going to have to call a meeting...I need my laundry baskets back for starters.
I'm linking up over at The Pleated Poppy for "What I wore Wednesday" and some spring time inspiration. Go check it out...and if you popped over here from there, I'd love to come back and visit you too.

Happy Wednesday!

What I wore Wednesday and a haircut!

It's been quite a while since I've linked up to the Pleated Poppy for "What I wore Wednesday".
I guess it's mostly because I've been wearing a lot of work out clothes and sweatshirts and ball caps and glasses. I guess one Wednesday, I'll link up with "What I REALLY wore on Wednesday." For now...this is what I really wore on Friday! David and Jonathan were out of town for a special birthday weekend and Emily was working. Zac and I had dinner out then rented "Cars 2" from Redbox. We grabbed some TCBY on the way home and had a movie night together.
About the outfit...the only new item is the top that I bought at H&M. We do not have an H&M near us...but when we were in Atlanta a few weeks ago, I got my fill of that place while Emily searched the store over for about 2 hours. This top is the only thing I bought...for me that is. It has a nice way of hiding the muffin top that I have gained over the winter months. I am convinced that I'll be one of those little old ladies with the tiny legs and big pot belly. Sadly, I need to shape it up!
And as far as my hair...I got it cut. Eight inches so she said...I still don't believe that, but it was long overdue. I normally pay some crazy amount for a cut and color, but this time, I took a photo to Great Clips and bought a box of hair color at the drug store. I saved about $100 bucks and I am, for the most part, happy with the outcome.
Yesterday, I did a little shopping at Kohl's and Old Navy. Hopefully I will be participating in WIWW a little more often now.
Happy Wednesday and head on over to The Pleated Poppy for more WIWW inspiration. And if you came here from there...thanks for stopping by!

What I wore~ Emily's boots!

Emily recently got some new boots. I love them...and when she is in a good mood, she lets me wear them. Yesterday though, I wore them without asking. She saw them when I picked her up from school. She didn't seem to mind. I am wearing them again today too.
My husband has been out of town. He left me a little note on the mirror. So sweet!
He is coming home today! Yay!

I love all the fun WIWW inspiration over at The Pleated Poppy!

What I wore Wednesday! ~ Still summer!

It still feels like summer over here!
Lindsey's post today is all about fall inspiration....I am super excited about the promise of wearing sweaters and jeans and scarves and boots, but for now, the 90 degree weather still has me in summer clothes!
The good news is that the stores are just as excited about the fall merchandise that they are slashing prices on some really cute summer tops and shorts to make room for them on the racks! I love the inspiration that I get from all the girls at the WIWW linky party at The Pleated Poppy. Be sure to check it out here!

Are you still in your summer clothes too?
What are you looking most forward to wearing this fall?
Enjoy your week!

WIWW and a sneak peek!

Hi and welcome to another "What I wore Wednesday" post. I know these posts have been a bit sporadic lately, but I'm sure no one really wants to see me in my PJ's, workout clothes and swim suit cover-ups!
At least this week, I managed to get out of my bathroom to take the photos. I am actually using these pics to give you a sneak peek into tomorrows post.....it's all about the surprise room makeover that took place while my daughter was away at camp! These pics were taken in her new room!

These last 2 pics just about give it away...
but be sure to come back on Thursday for the full surprise makeover reveal!
Have a great Wednesday!

WIWW...new summer clothes!

After a few weeks of wearing the same old ~ same old...I went on a little shopping spree to Old Navy! I was very excited with my super cute finds! I also grabbed a cute new red tank top at Wal Mart for a whopping $3 to add to a little black dress I had gotten at the beginning of the summer!
Everything was on sale! And somehow I got an extra 10% off too!
Are you finding any really great summer deals? Where?
I'm linking up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy, where I always find inspiration from some really fun and stylish bloggers! Thanks for stopping by over here too!

What I wore Wednesday!

After taking a few Wednesdays off,  I'm back for another WIWW post. I still have not had time for any shopping. Everything in this weeks post has been in my closet for at least 2 years. After looking at these pics though, I have decided my next purchase will be a new halter swim suit top. I must do something about the tan lines.
I absolutely love hats. I would wear one every day if I could....ball caps, bucket hats, beanies...I just feel safe underneath a great hat. This hat is well worn. It has been washed several times so it isn't stiff...and it fits just right. My Mom always told me that the secret to great skin  is staying out of the sun.  Keeps my eyes from being squinty and that is good, right?
Thanks for stopping by for WIWW!

Two more days...not counting today! You know...'til summer!!!!!!

What I wore Wednesday...Thanks to Emily!

Like I said....I am becoming a bit of an outfit repeater. I did mange to find this cute tank top in Emily's closet. I decided to pair it with a black skirt that has been a staple of mine for several years. I wasn't too unhappy with the outcome at all. My sandals were downstairs and I was running a bit behind.....I never found them so I ended up wearing flip flops. Oh well, it worked!
And for today....
Again...I raided Emily's closet to find the boots. Lucky for me she didn't wear them. On my way out the door this morning, I had to rescue a box turtle from our dog.....and our backyard is one giant puddle.
I'm linking up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy! Thanks for stopping by!

What I wore Wednesday!

Forgive me if my WIWW posts become a little bit more sporadic.  I have become a bit of an outfit repeater. I hope to add some fun summer clothes to my closet soon, but with my calendar crazy busy, I haven't had much time for shopping and thrifting.
I'm linking up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy, where you can find inspiration and really cute outfits!

What I wore Wednesday...celebrating Pink!

Spring has sprung and pink is in!
I just can't get used to taking these pics of myself.
The silly faces seem to come out after a few dozen unacceptable smiley faces.

And happily...the sandals have come out too!
And to continue my celebration of the color pink,
here is the updated view from my kitchen sink.
So much better than winter view here!
Loving Spring and celebrating pink!

What I wore Wednesday and Carnival Mirrors!

And now... a more creative take on the same outfit...

For some reason, I only had time to photograph one outfit this week...but hopefully you enjoyed the crazy mirrors. Totally wish I had that super thin one in my bathroom.
When was the last time you really laughed at yourself in the mirror?
I'm linking up here today and here on Friday!

What I wore Wednesday....a trick.

Last week I was having tons of trouble getting a good pic.
Turns out... the trick is to hold the camera up higher...
that way you get more of you in the picture.

What I wore Wednesday...the troubles I'm having.

I have always wanted to participate in "What I wore Wednesday".
I first saw it on Mandy's blog and then I saw it on April's blog too. The original WIWW link up is HERE!
Every time I tried to take a photo of myself in what I thought was a worthy outfit, I had camera troubles...or I suppose I should say photographer troubles.
The lighting was never right. The camera would take a blurry photo, because I couldn't press the button halfway to focus. Or there would be okay lighting and clarity, but I would look huge or wrinkled or well you know. And then there was the occasional good photo...then I would notice the mess on the floor or something else in the background that made me say "no" to posting again.
So...today...I pulled my daughter's mirror into my bathroom so that the lighting would be right, cleaned the floor a bit, tried not to squint, and took some photos.
And look how many I took....of the floor, the ceiling, the cabinets....etc....
Finally I got one of the entire outfit..almost!
Oh, the troubles I have!
Dress....Kohls...3 years ago.
Sweater...New York and Company
Boots...Target

Maybe next week, I'll have more luck!
We'll see!
