Winter sports!

It was one of the coldest days of the year. Emily's friends were visiting and 2 of them had never seen snow! We headed to Blowing Rock, NC for a night of adventure.

By the time we were finished, all of Emily's friends had given up...so it was just us. Sweet family time on the slopes!

Earlier that week, we had been ice skating! We got on cushiony clothes and really warm socks. We wore scarves and gloves....and we looked like we knew exactly what we were doing. Haha!

We make the most of winter by enjoying winter sports. We really wish it would snow, just enough to go sledding. We are still hopeful!

If you have snow, send some our way!

Insta~Friday!

Today is Friday!
It's time to post a few Instagram pics from the last few weeks or so.
Here goes...

A cozy kitty!
I was able to talk my co-workers into dressing up for Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-fila.
Last Friday, Emily left for Trail West, a Young Life camp in Colorado. She will be spending four weeks there on work crew! We are so happy for her.
A quick little get away to the coast! This was my view looking up from my lounge chair.
No vacation at the beach is complete without a round of mini-golf!

the next few pics were taken from Emily's Instagram feed.
Cul-de-sac fireworks! 4th of July!
A mountain bike trail ride!
Getting dressed up and hanging out with a friend!

And Zac's Instagram feed has these goodies...
Pool days!
A new Thunder hat! Spending money well spent!
The lazy river at out super happening Myrtle Beach hotel!
The sun peeking through the clouds!
Entertaining the rest of us at Eagles surf shop!

New Polo shirt from the Tanger outlets...and new sunglasses too.
Brothers mini-golfing!

Summer pics are super fun!
I am quite sporadic when it comes to Instagram. One day I'll post 3 or 4 pics, then I'll wait a week and post a few more. I love to see what my friends are posting....and it is also a neat way to keep up with my kids. Call me a creeper. I'm okay with it!

On Instagram I'm jensinkpen.
Enjoy the weekend!

Weekend get~aways!

A weekend getaway to the Great Smoky Mountain Wilderness.
I believe in weekend getaways.  I believe in getting away from the ins and outs of the everyday hustle and bustle of life. I believe in getting outside in nature, away from the TV and the ipad and the PS3.  I believe that sometimes, a long weekend is all you need to rejuvenate your soul and revive your spirit and propel you forward until the next little escape.

This past weekend, my family headed to the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. We stayed at a fabulous resort with Uncle Michael and Aunt Karen. It had an indoor waterpark, high ropes course, mini golf, laser tag, and bowling alley. We had so much to do in the resort alone...and then there was the splendor of the fall season in the surrounding towns of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.  We did a little sight seeing and people watching and outlet shopping.  We also did a little hiking and playing outdoors in the most beautiful places where the leaves were at their peak. The weather was warmer than expected and the sun was shining.  We really couldn't have ask for better conditions.

Today we are home and back into the swing of  the every day happenings. The kids have a little bit of school work to make up, there is no food in the pantry, the yard needs mowing and life goes on. At least another weekend is almost here!

Where do you like to go when it's time to get~away?
Enjoy your day!

I'm linking up with alphabe-Thursday. The letter of the week is "W"! Come on over here to join the fun!

To feel alive...proud...and really cold! Follow these directions!

We absolutely love the NC Mountains. It is surely one of God's best playgrounds...and we are all like little kids!
Emily had a volleyball camp to attend at Appalachian State University..... and we decided to stay a few days for a mini vacation!
This year we found a new spot to explore! We had heard about this place for several years, but it is about a 45 minute drive from where we normally play when we are in the area. It was absolutely worth the long and winding drive to get there. You will surely agree!
The water was super cold! I don't do cold water! And I also don't do swim across...or climb up...or jump!
But maybe next time!
If you are super brave...or super crazy...you can jump from the top of the waterfall!
It has been done many times....but not the day we were there! To see for yourself, check out the last 5 sec of this video!
I do not recommend this! At all!
If you are planning a visit to the mountains of NC, let me know. I'll give you the directions...and maybe we'll meet you there!
Have a great day!

This time last year!

Wishing we were here! Or at Whistler, of course!

Breckenridge, Colorado. A most fabulous place to spend a winter break with family!
It was this week, last year, that we were enjoying the slopes and the beautiful scenery!

Remembering this special trip.....and hoping to go back one day soon!
But for this year, we have had enough snow in the south to at least get some more use out of our snow clothes and boots! Now...bring on the sunshine!
