Mid week!

Today is Wednesday.
The middle of another week. Weeks that seem to zoom by as we head into the busiest time of the year.
On Sunday, I heard we had 100 days 'til Christmas. Maybe if I start right now, I'll miss the panic and be able to fully enjoy the season that will be here before I know it.

This week, the painters are here. They are banging and pressure washing and repairing rotten wood. As I sit here typing, I can hear them working and it makes me happy to know that the renovation is finally underway. I am still trying to decide on a color. I have had plenty of time to decide, but I guess it's like naming a child...even though you know when the decision must be made...sometimes it just doesn't get done until the final moment.

Emily has been busy with volleyball practice and games, therefore, she has not been able to work as many hours. Her cell phone contract will expire tomorrow and the new iphone 5 comes out the next day.   She is stressed because she will not have the money to get one for another 2 weeks. I have reminded her that the savings account I talked to her about this past summer would have come in really handy at this point. She understands now...I think.  My cell phone contract will expire just 2 days after hers. I am thinking that I will be using Instagram a lot more come this Christmas. Hint! Hint!
Tonight, Emily is hosting Young Life Bible Study in our living room. I hope she will be home in time to clean up a little bit, although, apparently high school kids don't care much about cleanliness as long as there are snacks.

Last week, Jonathan tried out for the Middle School Football team. He decided at the last minute that he wanted to try out. We had to get a Sports Physical that morning at The CVS Minute Clinic in order for him to be able to participate. After the first day of try-outs, he said he wasn't so sure. The work out was really hard and many of the boys were huge...but he went back the next day...and the next. He did not make the team, but we were very proud that he finished what he had started. Those are the same coaches that will be there for the track team tryouts and I'm sure they will remember his determination. For now, Jonathan is busy working on his summer reading project. The one that was assigned at the end of last school year. It is due on Monday. Again...it's getting done at the final moment. He is also busy with his Fantasy Football team. He amazes me at how much he knows about the players and positions and strategies, etc. It is fun to see him get excited about his team, although it is not fun when I go to bed on Monday nights, while he is still up...way too late...to watch Monday Night Football.

Zac is settling into his fourth grade class. His best friend in the whole world is in class with him and that makes it the best year ever. He told me at the beginning of the year that his teacher "didn't even have a bad side." I talked with her on Monday night at Back to School night...and I agree. She is really great! Every day when Zac comes home, he requests an Insta-Lunch to have for his snack. You know, the Ramon Noodle bowls that are ready in an instant. Easy enough. He is reading "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" and still constantly checking the weather radar for possible thunderstorms.

David and I are busy just keeping up with everyone else. We are tag teaming some of Emily's games so that the boys do not have to stay home alone or be bored out of their minds watching another volleyball match. We have been enjoying our new "Life Group".... four families in our neighborhood, all from different churches...that get together every other Sunday evening to share and talk and pray together for our children and our families. We are all at similar stages of life and find it so refreshing to learn that we are not the only ones struggling with this or that.

Since the early part of the summer, I have lost 10 and 1/2 pounds. I have reached my goal and feel so much better about the things I am eating and the way my clothes are fitting. Weight Watchers was such a good system for me to learn how to discern the good choices from the bad. I finally purchased a scale and I check in once in a while to see how I'm doing, but I am not obsessing. For now...my obsession is with paint colors....and one day very soon...I will have to commit to something and end that obsession too.

I hope your middle of the week is wonderful!
Anything exciting happening with you? Do share....

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed your catch up Jen. You sound like you are in the same place as us. Renovations, We still haven't completely finished painting, school, kids. We used to have a family group like yours but that was many years ago and I really do miss it. Maybe it's time to figure out one again.
    Have a great week.
    Take care,
    Dana
