Better late than never....Halloween...and "growing-up" children!

October 31! All Hallows Eve. The night the creepy spirits come to life, walk around, trading tricks for treats!
In our house, it wasn't so much creepy as if was silly, nerdy, crazy and stuck together.  I suppose late is better than never...but the truth of the matter is that I never got a pic of Jonathan in his Halloween costume this year. You see...the minute he was dressed, he snuck on over to his friend's house to complete his Siamese twin costume so that he would not have to trick or treat with his parents and little brother. We caught up with him and his twin quickly, much to his dismay, but I had left my camera at home. Later, I made him dress up again with his friend for another chance to get my pic!

We live in a huge neighborhood with some 550 houses. We must hit about 100 of them. Our neighborhood is very festive with many people decorating their houses. Many of the adults sit on their front porches or out in their yards to pass out candy. That is easiest with the steady stream of trick-or-treaters. On some cul-de-sacs, people gather at the end to share potluck dinners. They bring all of their candy so that the children can make one stop at the top of the cul-de-sac rather than having to hit every house.  There is even one house that sets up a haunted trail in the their back yard.
For the past 7 years, we have walked with our children around the neighborhood. This year as we walked, we realized that this would possibly be our last. Emily was gone to a Young Life Halloween Party, Jonathan was running about 5-6 houses ahead of us and Zac was trying hard to keep up with them. We discussed our plans for next year! A cook-out in the driveway, then sitting around the fire pit greeting the trick-or-treaters from the comfort of our lounge chairs. Maybe will add some hanging ghosts, tombstones and a cd with some scary music. Or...maybe the kids will let us come along one more time!

Linking up really late to alphabe-Thursday! The letter "B". Come join the fun at Jenny Matlock's blog!

  2. I know I've already told you this...but you live in my dream neighborhood! All I need to do is find my husband a job in your neck of the woods...and we're there! :)

You make the next chapter of the kids growing up sound pretty fun! Love the idea of having a fire in the driveway and making it a little party! I wonder what our neighbors would think if we did that?! Maybe we will have to try it!
