Papaw!

Two weeks ago today, we attended the funeral and celebration of life for our sweet Papaw.
I had not intended to post about it because somehow I thought that might minimize who he was and still is to our family. As I kept thinking about it, knowing that I wanted to include the event in this scrapbook of sorts I am writing...I knew it was appropriate....and needed.

These photos were taken last Christmas, when Papaw was feeling much better.

Papaw was my husband's Step Dad.
He moved into their home when David was 11. He was married to David's Mom for more than 30 years.
He was present at the birth of all of our children. He was their Papaw.
He was a great husband and companion for Mamaw.
He made the best fudge (with nuts, of course).
He worked hard. He could sleep anywhere.
He loved animals and would take his dog to the drive-thru to get a sausage biscuit.
He loved to talk to people...really talk. He was witty.
He never left without giving a hug.
I am so happy that my children had the chance to really get to know him.

Remembering!

Today is alphabe-thursday. The letter is "P" for Papaw.
I will not be joining in the linky party today though. I want to keep this a little more sacred...just for me, my family and the readers who come here on their own, not linking from a meme.

If you'd like to read more "P'" posts, head on over to Jenny Matlock's blog!.

  1. It is hard to capture in words sometimes just what someone means to your family. You did a great job.
I hope that my children's future kids and spouses appreciate The Coach as much.
My thoughts are with your family.

  7. I'm so sorry, Jen. I know how hard it is to lose your parents. I hope your husband is doing ok, as is the rest of your family. I love you tribute. The part about going thru the Drive-Thru to get his dog a sausage biscuit made me grin from ear to ear. That's the kind of little detail that says so much about a person. Great job!
