Have you seen this face?

It's the face the says "Maaahhm".
As if to say "Mom (really drawn out) are you kidding me?"
It's the "I am so annoyed that you are even talking to me" face. I am really not sure of any other way to explain it, but I know that some of you must have seen it on your own little ones faces, huh?

Here it is....
See, her lips are in the ready position to make the Mmmmmm sound!

Well, I have seen it many times, but not today!
You see...today, I let Emily miss school (Yikes! I know some of you are wondering now what kind of Mother I must be) so that we could enjoy a little girl time together. She has missed very few days of school this year. Exams and End of Grade tests are over....and next year...she will be in High School.

So...we had a little breakfast together, did a little shopping at her favorite store (ForeverXXI),  and then we headed to IKEA (Oh! Yes!) for a little High School room redecorating inspiration. We had a fabulous time...and were definately inspired.

I loved today with her...I didn't see this face..I wasn't annoying her....we had a really good time!
Now get on back to school, girly!
To that she says, "Maaahhm!"

  1. You have just posted my biggest fear. The day my Big Ballerina starts not wanting me to be around her.

Your daughter is gorgeous and I LOVE that you played hooky with her to have a little girl time. She'll remember this memory way longer than the date of the Battle of Big Horn.

Sounds like a FUN day...I bet you'll be the cool mom for at least the next three days, right?!

  3. That is so cool. My mom used to let me take a day off school every now and then too. I think it does them good. Great job.

  5. Hi! Nice to meet you too!! Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I love this post. I am sure life is "hard" with a teenager at times. I bet she enjoyed her day with you. Mine is just now 2 and it's hard as well. Some days I want to scream, but I know it all goes by fast.

I love in your profile where you say you treasure your "easy" friendships. I am so like that too. I'm going to follow your blog! :))

  6. It's hard when they reach 8th grade. . .you realize your time with them is so limited. . .only 4 more years. Way to go. . .taking advantage of a day away!

  9. I see the Maaahhmm face everyday from one out of five at least. And No! I don't think it's bad to give kids an "unexcused" absentee day from school. I call them freebies and we take them on an as needed basis. Sometimes we go do something together and sometimes their brains just need a rest. It is, however, nice to connect with your daughter like that. I think girls need it more than boys do.

  10. From the mother of a 14 year old who is figuring out which high school to attend (friends vs programming) which has involved tears on some days. I envied you your mom daughter time. We are still trying to finish her room as well. Good luck,

  12. I haven't gotten the look YET today but I will get it in a little bit when my son gets home from school! Tonight is his senior banquet and they have a senior slide show that you can take in photo's of your child to be shown in a slideshow at the senior banquet. Ypu take baby pics, cute pics, senior pics ... that sort of thing. Wich is tonight, well , he didn't want to take pic's in. Thought it was stupid. Well I took them in myself. didn't tell him. he found out. ( my cousin is a teacher at the school and she mentioned it, she didn't know..) she called me and told me she told him.I think he made the same face as your daughter!
